As you travel North on Great King Street along SH1 directly opposite the Alhambra Rugby Union grounds at number 588 you will find the Alhambra Oaks Motor Lodge.

Alan and Bev Kennedy are your hosts at the 4 Star plus 25 Unit Motor Lodge which they built in 2002. I stayed 4 nights at the Alhambra Oaks on my journey from Bluff to Cape Reinga and I can recommend the Alhambra Oaks as an excellent place to stay. Bev and Alan gave me a conducted tour of the lodge and I was most impressed.

They have spacious family apartments which have a door between units if required. Many of the Units have spa baths and the honeymoon unit has a double spa bath. The breakfast room doubles as a small conference room catering for up 20 people. Many travellers use the room as a venue to display their goods to their clients. There is also an internet room with broadband access where you can send or receive emails and surf the net. Parking is not a problem at the Alhambra Oaks Motor Lodge and out the back there is even room to park your trailer.

On my journey I am calling at every business on SH1 collecting business cards to load onto SH1 Business Directories and I found the lodge was a good central location for me to do this. It’s only 5 minutes walk to the University and a 10 minute walk will take you into the centre of Dunedin City. During my stay I had a single room with a double bed and ensuite facilities which they serviced every day.

Often it’s the hosts that make your stay pleasant and I found Alan and Bev did a very good job in that department and I thank them for their friendly hospitality.
